Venerable Dr. Walpola Piyananda and Venerable Dr. Madawala Seelawimala have been honoured in the United States for what organisers described as 50 years of dedicated service to Buddhism and humanity.

The commemorative programme began on 5 September 2026 with an offering ceremony and Pindapāta dedicated to the two Buddhist monks. The ceremony marked their five decades of service to Buddhism and humanity in the United States and formed the first day of a programme extending across three days.

The first day included several offering ceremonies and Pindapāta events held in honour of Venerable Dr. Walpola Piyananda and Venerable Dr. Madawala Seelawimala. The ceremonies were described as a tribute to their remarkable 50 years of service in the United States.

The programme continued on 6 September 2026 with a second day of offering ceremonies and Pindapāta. The day’s events again honoured the two monks for their five decades of dedicated service to Buddhism and humanity in the United States.

The observances concluded on 7 September 2026 with further offering ceremonies and Pindapāta. The third day’s programme also included an event at the University of the West, marking another part of the tribute to the two monks and their longstanding service.

Across the three days, the ceremonies provided an opportunity to honour Venerable Dr. Walpola Piyananda and Venerable Dr. Madawala Seelawimala for their 50 years of work in the United States. The repeated offering ceremonies and Pindapāta reflected the significance attached to the milestone and to their contribution to Buddhism and humanity.

The programme, held between 5 and 7 September 2026, brought together a series of religious ceremonies centred on the two monks and their five decades of service. The inclusion of the University of the West in the final day’s programme added an institutional setting to the concluding events.

The tribute represents a significant milestone in the service of Venerable Dr. Walpola Piyananda and Venerable Dr. Madawala Seelawimala, whose five decades of dedication to Buddhism and humanity in the United States were the central focus of the three-day programme.

Beginning with the offering ceremonies and Pindapāta on 5 September and continuing through 6 and 7 September, the observances marked 50 years of service while bringing the programme to a close with events that included the University of the West.

The three-day programme therefore served as a sustained tribute to the two monks, recognising their remarkable five decades of dedicated service to Buddhism and humanity in the United States.
