Amazon has announced plans to invest an additional $13 billion in India to expand its artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure capabilities, increasing its total investment commitment in the country to $48 billion between 2026 and 2030.
The latest investment builds on Amazon’s $35 billion commitment announced in 2025 across its businesses in India. The company said the new funding will focus on expanding AWS data center capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad, providing startups, enterprises and government organizations with access to artificial intelligence services, custom AI chips, secure cloud technologies and developer tools.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced the investment following his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 25 in New Delhi. During the meeting, Jassy highlighted India’s growing importance to Amazon’s global operations, which include ecommerce, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and entertainment services.
“For over a decade, we have been serving customers, sellers, developers, startups, and enterprises through our different businesses,” Jassy said. “As we grow Amazon in India, our business priorities align with India’s priorities of democratizing access to AI, digitizing small businesses, creating jobs, and enabling exports.”
The company said the expanded investment is intended to support India’s digital transformation by increasing access to AI technologies and strengthening cloud infrastructure. Amazon said it aims to work alongside businesses and organizations seeking to develop new applications, expand operations and serve customers internationally.
Alongside its technology investments, Amazon said it will continue expanding its ecommerce logistics network in India. The company plans to open more than 20 new fulfillment centers and over 100 additional last-mile delivery stations during the year, with the expansion focused on improving delivery capacity, particularly in tier 3 and tier 4 cities.
Amazon currently operates an extensive delivery network covering customers across every postal code in India, according to the company. The expansion will support its ecommerce and quick commerce operations while increasing delivery capacity nationwide.
The company also highlighted its “Sammaan” program, which provides benefits to delivery associates, including education scholarships for their children, access to government benefit programs, financial inclusion support, insurance coverage and road safety measures. Amazon said part of its recently announced $300 million investment in operations and associate well-being will be directed toward expanding these initiatives.
Amazon said its cumulative investment in India from 2010 to 2030 now exceeds $88 billion. Since entering the Indian market, the company said it has helped digitize 12 million small businesses, enabled more than $20 billion in cumulative ecommerce exports, supported 2.8 million jobs and trained more than 10 million Indians in cloud skills.
Looking ahead to 2030, Amazon said it plans to focus on AI-driven digitization, export growth and employment generation. The company has committed to supporting 3.8 million jobs, enabling $80 billion in cumulative exports, expanding AI benefits to 15 million small businesses and providing AI education opportunities for 4 million government school students.
The investment comes as India continues to expand its digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence capabilities, with global technology companies increasing their presence in the country through cloud services, data centers and technology partnerships.
