The Colombo District Court, presided over by Judge Sandun Withanage, extended the enjoining order against Barrington Global (Pvt) Ltd. on January 21, 2025, in connection with a case filed by a buyer of a condominium unit. The court also scheduled an inquiry to consider issuing an interim injunction against the company, which would remain in effect until the conclusion of the case.
The buyer alleges that Barrington Global (Pvt) Ltd. failed to uphold its contractual obligations in the sale of the condominium property. The court’s decision to extend the enjoining order signifies a temporary restriction on the company, pending further legal proceedings.
Adding to Barrington Global’s legal challenges, two additional buyers of properties from the company’s Barrington One apartment complex have filed separate lawsuits. Musthafa Abid and Amal Jayamini have accused the company of breaching agreements related to their property purchases. Their cases are scheduled to be heard on January 23 and January 31, 2025, respectively.
These lawsuits underscore growing concerns about Barrington Global’s fulfillment of its contractual obligations, particularly in its high-profile Barrington One development. The developments are being closely monitored, as the outcomes could have broader implications for the real estate sector and property buyers in Colombo.
Further updates on these cases are expected following the respective court hearings.
