The IPO’s success comes at a time when India has emerged as one of the world’s busiest markets for public listings.

LG Electronics India Ltd. is poised for a strong debut on Mumbai’s stock exchange on Tuesday, following what Bloomberg described as the country’s most oversubscribed billion-dollar initial public offering in nearly two decades. The home-appliance maker’s $1.3 billion IPO drew bids amounting to 54 times the number of shares available, highlighting surging investor appetite for one of India’s most high-profile listings of the year.

Shares of the Indian arm of South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. were trading about 30 percent above their issue price of ₹1,140 on the gray market ahead of the listing, according to data from Investorgain.com and IPOcentral.in. If the stock maintains this momentum, LG Electronics India could command a market valuation of over $11 billion — surpassing that of its Korean parent. Analysts say such a performance would underscore the depth of investor enthusiasm in India’s fast-growing consumer sector.

The IPO’s success comes at a time when India has emerged as one of the world’s busiest markets for public listings. Bloomberg data shows that October is on track to become India’s biggest month ever for IPOs, with proceeds expected to exceed $5 billion. Offerings from Tata Capital Ltd. and LG Electronics India have already propelled total IPO proceeds this year beyond $15 billion, with optimism building that the figure could eclipse last year’s record of nearly $21 billion.

Sudip Bandyopadhyay, group chairman at Inditrade Capital Ltd., told Bloomberg that LG’s strong debut “could light the Diwali fireworks with a stellar market debut,” referring to India’s festival season that often coincides with heightened market activity. He added that the listing might “open the door for several companies waiting to tap the market in the coming weeks.”

The offering attracted major global investors, including sovereign wealth funds from Abu Dhabi, Norway, and Singapore, as well as institutional heavyweights like BlackRock Inc. and Fidelity International Ltd. Their participation marks a stark turnaround for LG, which earlier this year had postponed its IPO plans and scaled back expectations.

While some analysts, including those at SBI Securities, argue that LG Electronics India offers a “superior return profile” compared with peers, others remain cautious. Sharekhan Ltd. noted that at 35 times last year’s earnings, the stock appears fairly valued at the issue price, suggesting limited room for upside beyond initial enthusiasm.

Still, Bloomberg’s data indicates that India’s IPO market remains in full swing, with upcoming offerings from firms such as Lenskart Solutions Ltd., Billionbrains Garage Ventures Ltd. — the parent company of Groww — and ICICI Prudential Asset Management Co. expected to sustain the momentum. For investors betting on India’s consumer boom and equity expansion, LG Electronics India’s debut could be the defining moment that sets the tone for a record-breaking IPO season.
