Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, is in discussions to invest $500 million in British self-driving car firm Wayve, according to The Times UK. The announcement comes as part of a wider slate of funding pledges unveiled during President Trump’s state visit to the UK.

The investment was revealed at a London event where Nvidia set aside £2 billion to support British start-ups, including Revolut, the online finance platform, and Synthesia, an AI video company. Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, addressed a gathering of technology entrepreneurs and investors, predicting that the first UK trillion-dollar company would emerge from the artificial intelligence sector.

Wayve, headquartered in King’s Cross, London, develops AI technology that enables vehicles to perceive their surroundings and navigate obstacles without a human driver. The company, which also receives backing from SoftBank, Uber, and Eclipse Ventures, collaborates with Uber to deploy autonomous vehicles across its ride-hailing network. Alex Kendall, Wayve’s co-founder and CEO, said Nvidia’s support “underscores confidence” in the company’s AI approach and its potential to transform mobility.

Nvidia has previously invested in Wayve, participating in a $1.1 billion funding round with Microsoft last year — the largest known investment into a European AI company at the time. In addition, Nvidia announced a £500 million investment in Nscale, an AI infrastructure start-up building the UK’s largest “sovereign” AI data centre in Loughton, Essex, which is expected to create hundreds of jobs.

The UK has secured £150 billion in inward investment from US firms during Trump’s visit, including commitments from Blackstone, Palantir, and CoreWeave, with the deals expected to generate more than 7,600 jobs nationwide. Sir Keir Starmer praised Nvidia’s announcement, highlighting the confidence in UK technology: “Thank you so much, Jensen, for your confidence in what we are doing and your investment.”

The Times UK emphasized the strategic importance of these investments in fostering Britain’s leadership in AI and advanced technology.
