OpenAI has secured a record-breaking funding round that values the company at an astonishing $835 billion, marking the largest private investment deal in history and signaling surging global confidence in artificial intelligence. The round, which totals $122 billion in committed capital, also marks the first time wealthy individual investors have been allowed to participate alongside major institutional backers.
The company behind ChatGPT said the fresh capital will accelerate development of its ambitious “super-app,” a unified platform designed to integrate ChatGPT, Codex, web browsing, and advanced agentic capabilities. These autonomous AI agents are intended to perform complex tasks on behalf of users, reflecting a major shift toward more independent and capable AI systems.
The latest funding builds on a previously announced $110 billion round, which included a $50 billion investment from Amazon and $30 billion commitments each from Nvidia and SoftBank. An additional $12 billion has since been raised, including $3 billion from high-net-worth individuals, with the remainder coming from venture capital firms and financial institutions.
In a move aimed at widening access, OpenAI also announced that it will be included in exchange-traded funds managed by ARK Invest, opening the door for broader investor participation. This step represents a notable shift for a company that has historically limited direct investment opportunities.
The funding milestone eclipses OpenAI’s own previous record of $40 billion set in 2025, underlining sustained investor enthusiasm despite mounting competition from rivals such as Anthropic and Google. The race to dominate the AI landscape has intensified, with major players pouring billions into research, infrastructure, and product development.
Financially, OpenAI is experiencing rapid growth, reporting $2 billion in monthly revenue—double its quarterly revenue from just months ago. The company expects enterprise clients to account for half of its total revenue by the end of the decade, reflecting a strategic shift toward business-focused AI solutions.
The massive financing round also comes as OpenAI prepares for a potential initial public offering, which could take place as early as this year. At the same time, the company is expanding its global footprint, including plans to establish its largest research hub outside the United States in London.
In its statement, OpenAI emphasized that expanding access to artificial intelligence remains central to its mission. The company argued that putting powerful AI tools into the hands of individuals and organizations will drive productivity, accelerate scientific breakthroughs, and redefine the boundaries of innovation, positioning itself at the forefront of a rapidly evolving technological era.
