A case reported from Galle has drawn widespread attention after a 16-year-old minor was allegedly assaulted following a dispute over unpaid wages. The incident gained traction after a video was shared online by activist Wasantha Mudalige, appearing to show the teenager being subjected to physical violence after being accused of theft.
According to the circulating reports, the child was employed at an egg business in the Siyambalagahawatta area near the junction between Dangedara and Sarentukade. Allegations suggest the minor was accused of stealing gold items and was forced to confess before being assaulted. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding workplace exploitation and unlawful treatment of minors.
The situation has led to growing calls for immediate investigation by the National Child Protection Authority and the Sri Lanka Police. Members of the public and activists are urging authorities to determine the facts of the case and ensure appropriate legal action is taken if violations are confirmed, emphasizing the importance of protecting minors from abuse and exploitation in all settings.
