Israel after Iran's counterattack

Iran launched a second wave of missile and drone attacks late Saturday night into early Sunday, targeting several cities in central Israel. Iranian state media reported that more than 200 Israelis were killed or wounded in this latest barrage, part of the large-scale operation codenamed “True Promise III.”

The cities of Bat Yam and Rehovot, both located south of Tel Aviv, were among the hardest hit. Israeli media outlets have issued conflicting casualty reports, with some citing at least 9 dead and 207 injured, while others, including Channel 12, reported 240 injuries and dozens still trapped beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings. Around 35 individuals remain unaccounted for in Bat Yam following what appears to be one of the most destructive missile strikes in recent memory.

Footage circulated on social media and Iranian platforms shows missiles hitting urban targets, with large fireballs, thick smoke, and widespread devastation clearly visible. According to Israeli media, damage in parts of Tel Aviv and its surrounding suburbs is extensive, with dozens of homes and buildings destroyed in Bat Yam alone.

A military research facility in Rehovot, believed to be affiliated with the Israeli military, was also reported to have been struck by Iranian missiles. The facility was described by Iranian sources as a “strategic target,” and its destruction is being interpreted as part of a broader effort by Iran to cripple key infrastructure.

Iranian media reported that 50 ballistic missiles were launched during this new wave of attacks, many aimed at military and industrial sites, including oil refineries and power grids. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that its aerospace division carried out the strikes in retaliation for what it called “renewed aggression” by Israel earlier this week.

This latest escalation marks a significant turn in the regional conflict, with Iran displaying a new level of precision and reach in its military capabilities. The situation remains fluid, and both Israeli and Iranian officials have indicated that further strikes may be forthcoming if hostilities persist.
