Russian President Vladimir Putin extended his congratulations to Donald Trump following his re-election as U.S. President, affirming his willingness to communicate directly with Trump. “I don’t think it’s shameful to call Trump, and I’m ready to communicate with him,” Putin told reporters, underscoring his openness to renewed diplomatic engagement. In addition, Putin remarked on Trump’s resilience, referencing his “courageous” conduct during an assassination attempt, which he said left an impression on him.
The re-election of Trump has already stirred discussions across Europe, particularly concerning Western financial aid to Ukraine. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, following a summit of European leaders in Budapest, suggested that the €50 billion aid package for Ukraine – a combination of U.S. and European contributions – might be reconsidered. “The package of measures is not enough to continue funding Ukraine, and Western countries are tired of allocating money,” Orbán stated, raising questions about future support as Western nations re-evaluate their long-term commitments amid shifting political dynamics.
According to Orbán, Trump’s victory has prompted European leaders to begin reassessing their strategic objectives in Ukraine. He noted that discussions are underway within the EU to clarify the bloc’s stance on the ongoing conflict, hinting at potential changes to future aid allocations.
