US President Donald Trump was filmed raising his middle finger and appearing to mouth an expletive at a Ford factory worker who heckled him during a visit to the F-150 assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan. The worker, TJ Sabula, shouted “pedophile protector,” referencing the controversy over the files of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, which Trump has sought to downplay despite earlier promises of transparency.
The incident, captured on social media and widely circulated, shows Trump turning toward Sabula, uttering several expletives, and briefly making the obscene gesture. White House communications director Steven Cheung confirmed the authenticity of the footage but did not clarify whether Trump definitively raised his middle finger. In a statement to the Washington Post, Cheung described the worker as “a lunatic… wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage” and called the president’s response “appropriate and unambiguous.”
Sabula, a 40-year-old line worker and member of United Auto Workers Local 600, told the Washington Post that he has been suspended pending an investigation but expressed no regret for his actions. “As far as calling him out, definitely no regrets whatsoever,” he said, adding that he felt targeted for political retribution for “embarrassing Trump in front of his friends.” Sabula identified himself as an independent and occasional Republican supporter, underlining the broad political resonance of the Epstein controversy.
The altercation underscores the persistent public scrutiny surrounding Epstein, who died by suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. Conspiracy theories and criticism have continued to surround the case, particularly regarding alleged involvement of high-profile figures. Trump, during his campaign, pledged to release the Epstein files, but as president he has repeatedly dismissed calls for disclosure as politically motivated “hoaxes.”
Public pressure intensified when Trump’s name appeared in Epstein-related material, although no allegations of wrongdoing have been made against him. Subsequent releases of documents by the Justice Department were heavily redacted, drawing criticism from legal experts, journalists, and political opponents who argue the disclosures fall short of promised transparency.
The viral encounter at the Dearborn plant adds a dramatic and personal dimension to the ongoing Epstein debate, highlighting both the polarized political climate and Trump’s combative approach to public criticism.
