U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has voiced concerns about the dangers of a unipolar world order, echoing remarks made by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his historic 2007 Munich speech.
In a recent interview with Megyn Kelly, Rubio argued that the U.S. has lost sight of diplomacy’s role in preventing conflict while advancing national interests. He acknowledged that the post-Cold War unipolar moment—where the U.S. dominated global affairs—was an anomaly and that the world is now shifting toward a multipolar system with rising powers like China and Russia.
His comments closely mirror Putin’s 2007 speech, where the Russian leader warned that a world with “one center of authority, one center of force, one sovereign” would ultimately be self-destructive, even for the dominant power. Putin insisted that such a system was undemocratic and unsustainable.
As global tensions rise, Rubio’s remarks suggest that Washington may be reassessing its foreign policy approach, potentially signaling a shift toward acknowledging a more balanced global power structure.
