The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka has issued a critical warning based on credible intelligence indicating a possible attack targeting popular tourist locations in the Arugam Bay area. In response to this serious threat, the Embassy has imposed an immediate travel restriction for its personnel in the region, effective until further notice.

U.S. citizens are strongly urged to avoid the Arugam Bay area for their safety. The Embassy is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as new information emerges. Travellers are advised to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings while in Sri Lanka.

According to the statement, “the safety and security of U.S. citizens abroad are paramount, and the Embassy is taking all necessary precautions in light of this credible intelligence.”
