U.S. Indo-Pacific Commander Visits Sri Lanka to Strengthen Ties

Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), met with Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), at the Defence Ministry in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte, today to discuss bilateral defence cooperation and regional security initiatives.

The U.S. delegation, led by Admiral Paparo, was warmly received by Defence Secretary Thuyacontha. The meeting was also attended by Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Nelson, Defence Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, along with other military and embassy officials.

During the discussions, both sides emphasized the significance of maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region through collaborative efforts and mutual understanding. The talks focused on strengthening defence relations between Sri Lanka and the United States, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two nations.

Defence Secretary Thuyacontha expressed his appreciation for U.S. support in defence and security cooperation, acknowledging the strategic importance of enhanced collaboration. Admiral Paparo reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to deepening defence ties with Sri Lanka and recognized the nation’s crucial position in the Indo-Pacific region.
