The world’s fastest bullet train, the CR450

The world’s fastest bullet train, the CR450, has begun a series of pre-service trials in China, reaching an impressive speed of 453 kilometers per hour during testing. The new high-speed rail, engineered for a top test speed of 450 km/h and a commercial service speed of 400 km/h, is being tested on the high-speed rail corridor connecting Shanghai in the east to Chengdu in the western part of the country.

According to Science and Technology Daily, the CR450 has made significant strides in its trials, showcasing its ability to accelerate from zero to 350 km/h in just 4 minutes and 40 seconds. In a groundbreaking maneuver, two CR450 trains even passed each other at a combined speed of 896 km/h, setting a new benchmark for high-speed rail performance.

The CR450 boasts several upgrades over its predecessor, the CR400 Fuxing, which currently operates at speeds of 350 km/h. These include a longer, sleeker nose, a 20-centimeter lower roofline, and a reduction in weight by 50 tonnes, improving its aerodynamic efficiency and reducing drag by 22%. These design enhancements contribute to the CR450’s exceptional speed and efficiency.

While the CR450 has yet to carry passengers, it is set to complete 600,000 kilometers of trouble-free testing before being cleared for commercial service. Once operational, it is expected to revolutionize high-speed rail travel, providing faster and more efficient connections across China’s vast rail network.
