Sri Lanka and China Strengthen Bilateral Ties in High-Level Meeting

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with a high-ranking Chinese delegation today, led by Ms. Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee (IDCPC), at the Presidential Secretariat. The meeting underscored the long-standing partnership between the two nations and explored new avenues for enhanced cooperation.

Vice Minister Sun Haiyan extended congratulations to the President on his victories in recent presidential and general elections, lauding the transformative changes in Sri Lanka under his leadership. Highlighting the development prospects of both countries, the discussions emphasized the importance of forging a mutually beneficial, long-term cooperation framework.

China expressed its readiness to support Sri Lanka in key development areas, including investment promotion, technology transfer, digitalization, and rural economic upliftment. Additionally, the Chinese delegation pledged assistance in advancing Sri Lanka’s human resource capabilities, with a focus on training officials in the education sector.

The President expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations. “Sri Lanka greatly values the continuous assistance provided by China, and we are eager to enhance our collaboration to achieve mutual prosperity,” he stated.

Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath and Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake were also present during the discussions. The Chinese delegation included Deputy Director General of the IDCPC Lin Tao, Director Li Jinyan, Secretary to the Deputy Minister Jin Yan, and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Qi Zhenhong.
