The Disaster Management Center (DMC) has released its latest nationwide assessment, reporting that the death toll from the recent disaster has climbed to 611, with 213 people still missing. As rescue and relief operations continue, the total number of individuals affected across the island has reached 2,054,535, while 576,626 are classified as directly impacted.
The DMC’s updated statistics show extensive housing destruction, including 69,635 fully damaged houses and 4,309 partially damaged houses. Currently, 956 evacuation centers remain active, providing shelter for 33,622 displaced individuals. In total, 114,126 people have sought emergency support through evacuation services.
The aftermath of the disaster has left communities struggling with widespread devastation. Entire neighbourhoods have been inundated or swept away, cutting off access routes and overwhelming local response teams. Essential services—including electricity, clean water, and transportation—have been severely disrupted in several districts. Emergency crews continue to clear debris, restore infrastructure, and conduct search operations in areas still inaccessible due to fallen trees, landslides, and flooding. Authorities warn that recovery will be a lengthy process, as many affected families have lost homes, livestock, and livelihoods, intensifying the need for long-term relief and rehabilitation efforts.
