The BRICS Summit 2025 has been officially scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro from July 6 to 7, according to the association’s press service. This marks a significant event under Brazil’s presidency of the bloc, which began on January 1, 2024.
The upcoming summit follows a year of substantial growth for BRICS, including the expansion of its membership and efforts to strengthen economic collaboration. At the start of 2024, the alliance welcomed five new members—Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia—marking the first expansion since South Africa joined more than a decade ago.
This enlargement underscores BRICS’ commitment to a multipolar global order, reducing reliance on Western financial systems, and bolstering economic cooperation among emerging markets. Key topics expected to be on the summit’s agenda include the bloc’s de-dollarization strategy, trade agreements, and geopolitical coordination among member states.
Brazil’s leadership in BRICS comes at a crucial time when the alliance is positioning itself as a major force in the global economic landscape. With its largest-ever roster of member states, the 2025 summit in Rio de Janeiro is expected to be a landmark event in shaping the future of the bloc.
