Hamas’ military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, has officially announced the death of its senior spokesman, Hudaifa Samir Abdullah al-Kahlout, known as Abu Obaida, along with the deaths of other prominent figures including Mohammed al-Sinwar, Mohammed Shabana, Raed Saad, and Abu Omar al-Syrian. Abu Obaida was widely recognized as a leading voice of Hamas and a prominent figure within the Axis of Resistance.
Abu Obaida was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City in August 2025. Just before his death, he recorded a video sharply criticizing Arab and Muslim world leaders for failing to support Palestinians in their struggle against Israel. He emphasized that Hamas’ efforts “do not absolve this nation of two billion from its duty, which it has unfortunately neglected.”
In his message, Abu Obaida condemned regional regimes for remaining passive while Israel received extensive military support, resulting in the deaths, starvation, and suffering of tens of thousands of Palestinians. He described these leaders as “opponents of Allah” and accused them of being enemies of every orphan, bereaved woman, displaced person, and wounded or hungry individual in Gaza.
The deaths of Abu Obaida and other senior commanders mark a significant blow to Hamas’ leadership, coming amid ongoing hostilities and heightened military operations in Gaza. The group has framed their loss as martyrdom, reinforcing their message of resistance and highlighting regional tensions over the conflict with Israel.
