HSBC Holdings Plc announced on Thursday that Andrew Wild, its chief executive officer for continental Europe, will step down from his role at the end of the year, citing family reasons. The British banking giant said Wild’s deputy, Christopher Davies, will assume the position of interim CEO following his departure on December 31.
In a statement, HSBC said Wild “leaves the business in a strong position for future growth” after overseeing a significant improvement in underlying profitability across the bank’s European operations. The lender described continental Europe as a “critical market” within its global network and “a key element” of its broader growth strategy.
Wild, who took over as CEO for continental Europe in July 2021, has been with HSBC for more than two decades and previously headed its commercial banking division in Europe. During his tenure, he led restructuring efforts aimed at strengthening HSBC’s performance across its major European hubs amid a broader push to streamline operations and boost returns.
The bank did not provide further details on Wild’s next steps or the timeline for appointing a permanent successor. His departure marks another senior leadership change for the London-based lender as it continues to focus on growth in its core international markets.
