Dr. Alireza Delkhosh, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Sri Lanka, delivered an emotional address during a humanitarian visit to the Fathima Orphanage and Ladies Hostel, combining outreach to vulnerable children with strong condemnation of a deadly U.S. strike on a school in Iran. The event, held in Colombo, brought together orphaned children in a symbolic act of remembrance and solidarity with victims of war.
The ceremony featured a moving programme in which orphaned students participated in a shared classroom setting dedicated to the memory of schoolchildren killed in Minab. The ambassador interacted warmly with the children, emphasizing compassion, unity, and the importance of protecting young lives. He underscored that civilians, particularly children, are protected under international humanitarian law, describing such protection as a fundamental and non-negotiable global norm.
In his remarks, Ambassador Delkhosh directly condemned the 28 February 2026 missile strike on a girls’ school in Minab, which occurred during the opening phase of a broader U.S.-led military campaign against Iran. Multiple investigations and reports indicate that the school was struck during joint U.S.-Israeli attacks, resulting in the deaths of more than 150 people, many of them children . The ambassador described the incident as an assault not only on innocent lives but also on the very foundations of humanitarian law, referring to the victims as “little angels” and calling for global accountability.
The Minab school attack has drawn widespread international concern, with human rights organizations and global bodies warning it may constitute a serious violation of international law. The strike destroyed a primary school building and killed a large number of students and staff, as part of a wider campaign that targeted multiple sites across Iran .
On behalf of the Iranian Embassy, Dr. Delkhosh also presented charitable donations to the orphanage, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to humanitarian values and support for disadvantaged communities in Sri Lanka. The event concluded with a message from a student representing the children and staff, expressing gratitude for the assistance and solidarity shown. The message also conveyed deep sorrow for the loss of innocent lives in Iran and expressed hope for a future where all children are protected, cared for, and allowed to live in peace.
