Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday pledged that those responsible for the deadly car blast in Delhi would be held accountable, assuring that the government is taking the attack “very seriously.” Speaking from Bhutan, where he is on a two-day state visit, Modi expressed his sorrow over the incident and solidarity with the victims’ families. “Today, I come here with a very heavy heart. The horrific incident that took place in Delhi yesterday evening has deeply saddened everyone. I understand the grief of the affected families. The entire nation stands with them today,” he said.

Modi added that he remained in contact with investigative agencies throughout the night following the explosion and emphasized that “all those responsible will be brought to justice.” The prime minister’s remarks came a day after a high-intensity blast tore through a slow-moving Hyundai i20 near the Red Fort in central Delhi around 7 pm, claiming at least eight lives and injuring several others. The explosion damaged nearby vehicles and prompted heightened security alerts across the capital.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also addressed the tragedy at the “Delhi Defence Dialogue” organized by the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (MP-IDSA). Singh extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, saying, “I pray to God to grant strength and courage to the bereaved families in this hour of deep grief.” He assured the nation that India’s leading investigative agencies are conducting a “swift and thorough” inquiry and that the findings would be made public soon. “Those responsible for this tragedy will be brought to justice and will not be spared under any circumstances,” Singh said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah added that “all possibilities” were being explored and confirmed that multiple agencies are investigating the cause and motive behind the blast. Delhi Police registered a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Explosives Act, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kotwali Police Station.

The incident, occurring at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near one of Delhi’s most iconic landmarks, has left the capital on edge. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact circumstances behind the explosion, while top government officials vow to ensure accountability for the lives lost and injured in the attack.
