North Korea has successfully launched its second new Choe Hyon-class destroyer, marking a significant milestone in the regime’s ongoing naval expansion.
State media reported that the launch proceeded without incident, a stark contrast to the previous attempt, which was marred by undisclosed damage. While full details remain unclear, officials noted that the affected vessel has been repaired sufficiently to allow for a formal ceremony, signaling progress in North Korea’s military shipbuilding capabilities.
During the launch event, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un reaffirmed the country’s commitment to its naval modernization program, stating that “two or more Choe Hyon-class destroyers will be built each year.” This announcement underscores North Korea’s intent to steadily bolster its maritime presence amid ongoing regional tensions.
