The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for June 9 on a fundamental rights petition filed by Dr. Selladurei Ramesh Kumara and Nadee Achala Diwaka Don Hettige, seeking an interim order to halt the use of software developed by Epic Lanka (Pvt) Ltd for the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) and the electronic passport system.

The petition, filed in the public interest, alleges that the software, currently used by the NMRA and the Department of Immigration and Emigration, poses risks to data security and public resources. The petitioners have cited concerns over a past data breach at the NMRA and raised issues regarding alleged corruption and misuse of public funds linked to the software’s licensing.

The case, which was called on May 8 before a Supreme Court bench, saw only the Attorney General appearing on behalf of the respondents. The court has directed the petitioners to notify all other respondents, including Epic Lanka, its Executive Chairman Nayana Dehigama, several foreign companies, and multiple government officials and ministers.

President’s Counsel Uditha Igalahewa appeared for the petitioners.
