Colombo, Sri Lanka – In a message today, Minister of Foreign Affairs M U M Ali Sabry extended profound gratitude to Sri Lanka’s international partners for their unwavering support during the nation’s journey toward economic recovery. Addressing a global audience, Minister Sabry highlighted the significant role that countries like India, Japan, China, and members of the Paris Club have played in helping Sri Lanka achieve critical milestones in its debt restructuring efforts.

“Today, I share a message of profound gratitude and hope on behalf of Sri Lanka. Our journey to economic recovery has been incredibly challenging, but your unwavering support and cooperation have made a world of difference,” said Minister Sabry.

The minister acknowledged the collaborative spirit and commitment of Sri Lanka’s partners, whose agreement to the debt restructuring plan was instrumental in unlocking vital International Monetary Fund (IMF) facilities. He emphasized that the recent agreements to restructure bilateral debts have set Sri Lanka on a confident path toward restoring debt sustainability.

“To India, the Paris Club, Japan, China, and all non-Paris Club members, thank you for your steadfast commitment. Your agreement to our debt restructuring plan unlocked vital IMF facilities. Now, with the recent agreements to restructure our bilateral debts, we are confidently on the path to restoring our debt sustainability,” he added.

Minister Sabry lauded the solidarity shown by these nations during Sri Lanka’s most challenging times, noting that their support has provided a beacon of hope for all Sri Lankans. “This remarkable progress reflects your friendly and cooperative spirit. Your solidarity during our darkest hours has provided a beacon of hope for all Sri Lankans. Your partnership is helping us build a stronger and more resilient economy.”

Expressing sincere thanks, Minister Sabry concluded, “From the depths of our hearts, we extend our sincere thanks for your continued support and belief in our future. Together, we are transforming Sri Lanka’s destiny and fostering a brighter tomorrow.”
