In a move to strengthen bilateral military relations, Sri Lanka’s Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), held a key meeting with Admiral Naveed Ashraf, the Chief of the Naval Staff of Pakistan, on Thursday (May 1). The engagement took place on the sidelines of the ongoing defence dialogue between the two nations.

The meeting underscored the importance of regional maritime security cooperation and mutual defence interests, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to enhancing military-to-military engagements and dialogue.

Joining the Defence Secretary were several senior officials from Sri Lanka’s defence establishment, including Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, Additional Secretary (Defence) of the Ministry of Defence Mr. Jayantha Edirisinghe, Sri Lanka Army Chief of Staff Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, and Air Force Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal Lasitha Sumanaweera.
