The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has entered into a $200 million contract with Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, in a move aimed at harnessing advanced AI capabilities to address pressing national security challenges.

The agreement marks a significant step for xAI, which was founded by Musk in 2023 as a challenger to existing AI giants. As part of the new collaboration, xAI has also announced the launch of “Grok for Government,” a version of its AI platform tailored for use by federal agencies. The tool is expected to support a range of government functions, from intelligence analysis to logistics and cybersecurity operations.

This contract is part of a broader Department of Defense initiative to rapidly integrate AI into its operations. The DoD has reportedly signed similar $200 million deals with other leading AI firms, including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic. These agreements signal the growing reliance of U.S. defense infrastructure on cutting-edge technologies developed by the private sector.

While details of the individual contracts remain classified, defense officials have stated that the partnerships will enhance situational awareness, decision-making, and threat response capabilities across multiple branches of the military and intelligence community.
