The Chinese government has demonstrated its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern Provinces, with donations totaling over 1.5 billion Sri Lankan Rupees (LKR) this year. These contributions have focused on enhancing livelihoods and providing essential resources to residents.

In the first half of 2024, China provided housing units, fishing nets, and rice worth 1.5 billion LKR, benefiting communities in need. On November 20, the Chinese Embassy extended additional financial assistance, donating 12 million LKR to the Northern Province and 8 million LKR to the Eastern Province.

Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong, during his visit to the two provinces from November 19 to 21, participated in the donation events and interacted with the local communities. The ambassador visited a Tamil village in the Eastern Province, which he has supported for several consecutive years. His efforts have included multiple contributions aimed at improving housing and livelihoods, with the ambassador expressing pride in witnessing the villagers’ continuous progress.
