Handover Ceremony Attended by Sri Lanka’s Agriculture Minister, Russian Ambassador, WFP, and Uralchem

Uralchem Group has delivered 55,000 tonnes of potash fertiliser to Sri Lanka to support the country’s agricultural sector and strengthen food security. The official handover ceremony in Colombo was attended by Sri Lanka’s Minister of Agriculture, Kuragamage Don Lalkantha, Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Levan Dzhagaryan, and representatives from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Uralchem Group.

The shipment, which left the European Union by sea in mid-October, has now arrived at the Port of Colombo and is being offloaded. The fertiliser will help boost productivity for Sri Lankan farmers and address the challenges of food shortages.

This delivery is part of Uralchem Group’s ongoing humanitarian programme, which has donated 190,000 tonnes of fertiliser to developing countries since late 2022. Other countries that have received support include Malawi, Kenya, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. The WFP has played a key role in transporting over 166,000 tonnes of these fertilisers from European ports to recipient nations, including Sri Lanka.

The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #2 — “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.”

Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem JSC, said:
“Mineral fertilisers are essential for healthy plant growth and higher yields, which are critical for a stable food supply. As a major producer and exporter of mineral fertilisers, Uralchem Group is committed to supporting global food security. We are proud to assist Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector and improve the lives of its people. We hope this fertiliser will help local farmers achieve abundant harvests.”

Uralchem Group is one of the world’s largest producers of mineral fertilisers and chemical products. Its humanitarian programme aims to address the global food crisis and support sustainable farming in developing nations.

About Uralchem Group: Uralchem Group includes leading Russian companies Uralchem JSC, Uralkali PJSC, and TOAZ JSC, with a combined production capacity of approximately 25 million tonnes per year. The Group employs about 38,000 people and continues to provide vital support for agriculture and food security worldwide.
