U.S. intelligence sources claim that Iran has increased uranium enrichment levels to above 80% purity at its underground Fordow Enrichment Plant, bringing it dangerously close to weapons-grade levels. This revelation has sparked heightened concerns among Western nations and renewed fears of a potential crisis over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
The European Union has voiced growing alarm over Iran’s trajectory, warning that Tehran may even consider withdrawing from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), a move that would send shockwaves through the international community.
In a joint statement, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany condemned Iran’s nuclear escalation, citing the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) findings. “The scale of Iran’s enrichment activities is unprecedented for a non-nuclear-weapon state and has no credible civilian justification,” the statement read. The three European powers emphasized that the situation has reached a critical point, where Iran’s intentions cannot be verified as purely peaceful.
The latest developments come amid already heightened tensions between Iran and the West, with diplomatic efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal largely stalled. Experts warn that if Iran continues to push its nuclear program beyond internationally accepted limits, it could provoke new sanctions or even military action, further destabilizing the region.
