Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the central role of technological transformation in shaping Iran’s post-oil economy during a meeting on Saturday night to discuss strategies for the country’s technological development.

“The government’s foundation is to make technological and scientific transformation the central framework for all decision-making,” Pezeshkian said, highlighting that technology and innovation should guide both economic planning and governance reforms. He stressed the importance of leveraging the experiences of member states of regional and international organizations such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to accelerate Iran’s progress.

Participants at the meeting outlined key priorities for advancing Iran’s technological landscape, including focusing national resources on priority tech sectors, forging partnerships with leading countries to benefit from their expertise, implementing large-scale technological projects to align with global trends, supporting the private sector to develop globally competitive tech firms, and positioning Iranian companies in high-potential areas such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, advanced technologies, and artificial intelligence.

Pezeshkian emphasized that technological advancement is not a supplementary policy but the core of Iran’s economic strategy, aimed at generating wealth and fostering industries rooted in scientific achievements and knowledge transfer from universities to innovative companies.

Comments During China Visit

During a later visit to China, Pezeshkian spoke with China Central Television (CCTV), discussing Iran-China relations, regional developments, and global issues. He praised Chinese President Xi Jinping’s vision of global governance based on equality among nations and warned against the dominance of unilateral actions by powerful countries.

Reflecting on his previous visit to China a decade ago, Pezeshkian noted significant urban and environmental improvements and lauded China’s progress in promoting multilateralism. He also highlighted the strategic and historical ties between Iran and China, emphasizing that their partnership has grown stronger amid rapid global changes.

The Iranian president addressed regional stability, including the recent resumption of Iran-Saudi relations facilitated by China, criticized violations of international law by unilateral powers, and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to peaceful nuclear activities. He stressed that Iran seeks no conflict but will vigorously defend itself against aggression, while advocating for the right of all nations to pursue scientific and technological advancement peacefully.
