President Ahmad al-Sharaa emphasized on Sunday that rebuilding Syria is a collective responsibility, urging every citizen to contribute to the reconstruction of their country. Speaking during a visit to observe the People’s Assembly elections at the National Library Center in Damascus, al-Sharaa described the electoral process as a historic milestone, marking a transition from years of war and chaos to a period of broad national participation.

Al-Sharaa highlighted that over the past seven months, Syria has managed to organize elections despite ongoing challenges, a feat he described as remarkable. He characterized the process as moderate and suitable for the current circumstances, aligning with the transitional phase the country is undergoing. The president stressed the significance of unity and shared involvement among Syrians, encouraging citizens to take pride in their ability to restore political participation and governance structures within such a short period.

Reiterating that reconstruction is not the responsibility of a few, al-Sharaa called on every Syrian to play an active role in building the new country. He expressed hope that the elections would bring forward capable representatives to the People’s Assembly, enabling the passage of critical legislation, approval of the national budget, and addressing of long-standing issues. The president underscored that filling this legislative gap is essential for ensuring the government functions effectively and that oversight and accountability are maintained.

Concluding his remarks, al-Sharaa expressed optimism for Syria’s future, envisioning the new Assembly as a catalyst for prosperity and progress. “As Syrians have consistently excelled in their achievements throughout history and recent years, we will continue to see new innovations and successes in the days to come,” he said, signaling a commitment to national rebuilding and legislative renewal.
