JPMorgan Asset Management plans to double its Asia-Pacific assets under management to $600 billion within five years, betting on rapid growth in active exchange-traded funds and emerging investment opportunities across the region.
The firm’s Asia-Pacific chief executive officer, Dan Watkins, announced the target during a conference in Seoul, outlining an even more ambitious long-term goal of building a $1 trillion business in the region. JPMorgan managed $302 billion in Asia-Pacific at the end of 2024, more than double the amount it oversaw in 2019 when Watkins first took charge of the regional operations.
Watkins credited the surge in growth to rising investor demand for active exchange-traded funds, a segment that allows fund managers to adjust portfolios in response to market conditions while offering the liquidity of traditional ETFs. In September, the company launched its first active ETF in Taiwan, giving investors exposure to major U.S. technology firms — a move that has drawn strong local interest.
In another milestone, JPMorgan Asset Management became the only foreign company among three selected to manage a combined S$1.1 billion ($847 million) mandate from the Monetary Authority of Singapore in July. The initiative aims to strengthen Singapore’s domestic equities market and deepen collaboration with global investment managers.
Watkins said the firm sees “remarkable momentum and great growth potential” in markets such as Australia, Singapore, Southeast Asia, and South Korea, citing strong client appetite for diversified investment solutions and cross-border opportunities. He added that the company’s strategy includes expanding its presence in key regional centers, including Australia and China, where it has recently established wholly owned operations.
Globally, JPMorgan Asset Management, part of the New York-based financial giant, managed $3.7 trillion in assets under service as of March. With Asia now a central pillar of its long-term strategy, the firm’s expansion underscores Wall Street’s growing confidence in the region’s economic resilience and the accelerating demand for sophisticated investment products.
