Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has announced a new initiative called Cocoon, a decentralized platform designed to transform AI computing. The project, officially named Confidential Compute Open Network, was revealed at the Blockchain Life 2025 conference. Cocoon integrates artificial intelligence, social media, and the Telegram Open Network (TON) blockchain, aiming to reduce the cost of AI computing while ensuring private data remains secure.
The platform allows owners of graphics processing units to contribute their computing power to the network in exchange for TON tokens. AI developers can then access this computing power to train and run their models, creating a decentralized ecosystem for AI innovation. According to Durov, Cocoon ensures users can utilize advanced AI tools, such as text generation and summarization, without the risks associated with centralized providers.
Earlier in October, Durov also announced the launch of an AI laboratory in Kazakhstan, which will focus on projects that merge blockchain technology with neural networks. Cocoon represents a continuation of Durov’s vision to combine decentralized technology with practical AI applications, potentially changing how developers and companies access computing resources securely and cost-effectively.
