President Vladimir Putin inspected a dancing humanoid robot during a technology exhibition in Moscow on Wednesday, a demonstration staged by Sberbank and broadcast on state television. The visit, reported alongside broader geopolitical tensions by outlets including The Times UK, took place just hours after Russian drone and missile strikes in western Ukraine killed dozens.
Kremlin bodyguards kept a tight formation around the president as the AI-powered robot—named Green—introduced itself and began its routine.
“My name is Green. I am the first Russian humanoid robot with embedded artificial intelligence,” it said. “This means that I am not just a programme on a screen, but a physical embodiment of technology.”
Green explained that more than 40 motors and numerous sensors enabled it to move and balance naturally. It then requested its favourite “track”—using the English word—before performing an energetic dance to The Sun Rose High, a Russian folk-pop song.
Putin observed the demonstration with a brief smile. “Very beautiful. Thanks,” he said before resuming his tour, his security detail visibly relieved.
The presentation came only days after another Russian AI robot, Aidol, drew ridicule when it toppled face-first during a public event in Moscow—prompting social media users to dub it the world’s first “alcoholic robot.”
Alongside Green, Sberbank also unveiled a new generation of smart cash machines capable of analysing users’ health metrics such as pulse and blood pressure. Putin—whose health has long been the subject of speculation—politely declined to test the device.
“I recently had my annual check-up,” he said. “It took two and a half days, including an overnight stay at the clinic. Thank God, everything is fine.”
The exhibition underscored Russia’s ambition to showcase technological progress even as its military actions continue to dominate global headlines.
