Israel has sent a consignment of emergency humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka in the wake of Cyclone Ditwah, which left a trail of destruction and caused significant loss of life across the island nation. In a statement issued in New Delhi, the Embassy of Israel extended its condolences to the Sri Lankan government and its people, calling the impact of the cyclone a profound tragedy that warrants immediate and meaningful support.
The relief supplies, provided by the Government of Israel in collaboration with MASHAV, include a wide range of items aimed at addressing urgent needs in the affected regions. The shipment contains folding beds, first aid kits, surgical gloves, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, power banks, raincoats, mattresses, water tanks, baby utensil packs, kitchen sets, submersible water pumps and protective goggles. Israeli officials said the materials were selected based on requests communicated by Sri Lankan authorities engaged in disaster response operations.
To ensure effective coordination, Hadas Bakst, Political Advisor at the Embassy of Israel in New Delhi, is currently in Sri Lanka overseeing the delivery and distribution of the aid. Her presence underscores Israel’s intention to provide not only material assistance but also operational support to help local agencies reach the hardest-hit communities without delay.
The embassy stated that this initiative reflects the longstanding friendship between Israel and Sri Lanka and reaffirmed Israel’s readiness to continue supporting recovery efforts as the country confronts the extensive humanitarian challenges left behind by Cyclone Ditwah. Israeli officials added that they remain in close contact with Sri Lankan authorities to guarantee the timely allocation of relief materials to those who need them most.
