“Zootopia 2” has become Walt Disney Animation Studios’ highest-grossing film ever, surpassing 2019’s “Frozen 2,” the company announced Wednesday. The animated sequel has earned approximately $1.46 billion globally, marking it as the fifth Disney animated feature to cross the $1 billion milestone.

The film’s success has been particularly pronounced in China, where it has grossed over $560 million, dominating its opening weekend and capturing roughly 95% of the country’s ticket sales. The global launch, which coincided with the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend, brought in an estimated $556 million, setting the tone for Hollywood’s crucial holiday season.

“Zootopia 2” reunites fan-favorite characters Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde for a new adventure through the bustling animal metropolis. Analysts say the film’s strong performance is a bright spot for the industry, which continues to struggle to reach pre-pandemic box office levels.

The sequel’s record-breaking run has provided a much-needed boost to Disney and theater operators, especially during the year’s second-busiest moviegoing season, highlighting the continued appeal of family-oriented animated films in global markets.
