Smoke rises over a city skyline following an overnight bombardment, as emergency responders and security forces assess damage amid ongoing tensions.

Saturday’s U.S. military strikes on Venezuela have provoked a wave of condemnation and concern from countries across the globe, highlighting the fragile state of international relations. Russia’s Foreign Ministry described the attacks as “an act of armed aggression,” criticizing Washington for prioritizing ideological animosity over pragmatic diplomacy and urging Latin America to remain a “zone of peace.” Moscow called for an immediate UN Security Council meeting, aligning itself with Venezuela and other regional leaders.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei framed the strikes as an assault on national sovereignty, calling on Venezuela to resist the United States with “confidence in the support of the people” and divine guidance. In contrast, European leaders emphasized restraint and adherence to international law. Spain offered its “good offices” to mediate a peaceful resolution, while Germany’s prominent MP Roderich Kiesewetter warned that the U.S. under President Trump is abandoning the post-World War II rules-based order. Former Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte condemned the intervention as a violation of international law, cautioning that selective enforcement of rules undermines global security.

Regional neighbors expressed alarm but sought to avoid escalation. Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar reaffirmed that her country is not participating in the military operations and stressed the importance of maintaining peaceful relations with Venezuela. Indonesia echoed calls for de-escalation, prioritizing civilian protection and dialogue, while Belgium mobilized its embassy and diplomatic services to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of its citizens.

The unfolding crisis has thrust Venezuela into the center of international scrutiny, with world powers weighing the balance between sovereign rights, regional stability, and the global implications of unilateral military action. As the situation develops, the pressure on Washington to justify its intervention and on other nations to respond effectively is intensifying.
