Tech executives took advantage of a record-breaking rally in 2025 to convert massive paper gains into cash, selling more than $16 billion worth of company stock as share prices surged, according to a Bloomberg analysis of insider trading data. The sales came amid an AI-driven boom that pushed valuations of major technology firms to historic highs.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos topped the list, selling 25 million shares worth $5.7 billion in June and July. The timing coincided with his high-profile wedding celebrations with Lauren Sanchez in Venice. Oracle’s former chief executive Safra Catz followed with $2.5 billion in stock sales, while Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell sold shares worth about $2.2 billion.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also joined the wave of selling as his company became the world’s first business to reach a $5 trillion market valuation. Huang sold roughly $1 billion in shares during the year. Arista Networks CEO Jayshree Ullal cashed out nearly $1 billion as demand surged for the company’s high-speed networking equipment, lifting her personal net worth beyond $6 billion.
Bloomberg notes that most of the transactions were conducted through pre-arranged trading plans filed well in advance, rather than opportunistic moves timed to market peaks. Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg sold about $945 million in shares through his charitable foundation, while Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora and Robinhood co-founder Baiju Bhatt each sold more than $700 million worth of stock.
The common driver behind the wave of insider selling was a powerful AI-fueled rally that propelled tech stocks higher throughout the year. As investors piled into companies positioned to benefit from artificial intelligence, executives seized the opportunity to lock in gains, underscoring how the AI boom reshaped both market valuations and personal fortunes in 2025.
