Addressing social media activists at his political office in Colombo, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe clarified that Sri Lanka will not face a fuel crisis despite not receiving oil from Iran. He emphasized that the country sources oil from multiple other nations, ensuring continuity of supply.
Wickremesinghe noted that a potential problem could arise only if geopolitical tensions, such as attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, were to disrupt shipments. However, he reassured the public that no such incidents have occurred to date, and there is currently no threat to Sri Lanka’s fuel availability.
The former president’s remarks aim to counter growing public concern over international oil supply disruptions and reaffirm that Sri Lanka’s diversified sources protect the country from immediate shortages.
