The National Development Bank PLC (NDB) has officially reported a significant financial fraud to the Colombo Stock Exchange, revealing that a group of its employees conspired with external parties to siphon funds. Preliminary estimates suggest the fraud amounts to around Rs. 380 million, although the bank warns that the total loss could be considerably higher. The full extent of the crime remains undisclosed as both criminal and internal investigations are ongoing.

Authorities have been promptly notified, and law enforcement agencies are now investigating the matter. The bank has also informed the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and is fully cooperating with regulatory bodies to contain the fallout and ensure that the perpetrators face justice. Despite the alarming nature of the case, NDB Bank has assured customers and stakeholders that daily operations will continue unaffected, with all deposits and account balances remaining secure.

Bank officials emphasized that a detailed disclosure will be issued once investigations are complete and comprehensive reports are available, signaling a commitment to transparency and accountability in the wake of the fraud.
