Bill Gates, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft and philanthropist, is set to appear before the US House Oversight Committee in June to testify about his connections to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. According to sources in Washington, Gates has been formally summoned for June 10, marking a high-profile development in an ongoing investigation into Epstein’s activities and the individuals who associated with him. The news was first reported by MS NOW and later confirmed by the Washington Post.

The House Oversight Committee, currently led by Republicans, is probing the Justice Department’s handling of investigations into Epstein. In March, lawmakers sent a letter to Gates requesting that he provide testimony about his interactions with Epstein. Gates is one of seven people called before the committee as part of the inquiry, highlighting the breadth of scrutiny on Epstein’s network and those who maintained connections with him after his 2008 conviction.

A spokesperson for Gates said the entrepreneur intends to answer all questions and cooperate fully with the committee. At the same time, the spokesperson emphasized that Gates has never witnessed or participated in any illegal activity by Epstein. Despite this, it has emerged that Gates had arranged meetings between executives from the Gates Foundation and Epstein, a fact that has drawn additional attention to the billionaire’s interactions with the financier.

Gates’ name appears in recently released Epstein-related documents from the US Department of Justice, further intensifying scrutiny. The files include a draft email in which Epstein allegedly referenced Gates’ affairs with two Russian women and claimed to have assisted him “obtain medication to cope with the effects of sex with Russian girls.” Gates later publicly admitted to having relationships with the two women, but denied any wrongdoing or participation in Epstein’s criminal behavior.

The upcoming testimony follows earlier revelations involving other prominent figures connected to Epstein. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, a former Manhattan neighbor of Epstein, was previously disclosed to be among those who will testify. Lutnick has faced mounting bipartisan pressure to explain his continued interactions with Epstein despite publicly distancing himself from the financier. Justice Department records indicate that Lutnick maintained contact with Epstein in the years after the latter’s initial conviction, raising questions about the nature and extent of their relationship.

Jeffrey Epstein’s criminal history casts a long shadow over these proceedings. Epstein was suspected of sexually abusing more than a thousand minors and young women, some of whom he allegedly trafficked to high-profile figures in business, politics, and entertainment. He was first convicted in 2008 for soliciting a minor for prostitution but received a controversial plea deal that resulted in just 13 months of jail time. Epstein’s release and continued associations with influential figures have remained a source of public outrage and political concern.

In 2019, Epstein was arrested again on federal charges, including sexual abuse of minors, reigniting widespread scrutiny of his past dealings. A month later, he was found dead in his New York City jail cell. Official reports determined his death was a suicide, but the circumstances surrounding it have fueled speculation and conspiracy theories, ensuring that investigations into his network remain highly sensitive and closely watched.

Gates’ impending testimony is expected to provide lawmakers with insights into Epstein’s reach into elite social and business circles, as well as the potential exposure of other influential figures who engaged with him. The House Oversight Committee’s inquiry underscores the continuing effort to understand how Epstein operated for years with apparent impunity and how his connections intersected with some of the world’s most powerful individuals.

The scrutiny of Gates, along with other high-profile witnesses, comes at a time of heightened public interest in accountability for those linked to Epstein. While Gates has insisted that his encounters with Epstein were strictly professional and philanthropic, the committee’s questioning may probe the extent of his knowledge of Epstein’s conduct and any role, direct or indirect, in enabling it. Lawmakers have indicated that the hearings aim to shed light not only on past transgressions but also on institutional failures within the Justice Department that allowed Epstein to maintain influence after his initial conviction.
