The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, marking its return to power in the national capital after 27 years. The party won 48 out of 70 seats, decisively ending over a decade of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rule.
Addressing a jubilant gathering at BJP headquarters, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on AAP over corruption allegations, promising a thorough investigation into the party’s financial dealings.
“These ‘AAPda’ people resorted to conspiracies daily to hide their scams. Now, the Delhi poll verdict has come. I guarantee that in the first assembly session, the CAG report will be tabled. Every link of corruption will be probed, and whoever has looted will have to return,” PM Modi declared.
He further asserted that the people of Delhi have been freed from what he termed the “AAP-da” (a play on the word ‘disaster’), emphasizing that the city will now experience real development.
AAP’s Collapse and BJP’s Emergence as a Dominant Force
BJP’s sweeping victory saw several prominent AAP leaders, including former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and ex-Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, lose their strongholds. Kejriwal, who was earlier imprisoned in connection with the excise policy case and is currently out on bail, suffered a major electoral setback as BJP leader Parvesh Verma defeated him in the New Delhi constituency by over 4,000 votes.
Verma, hailed as a ‘giant killer’ in the elections, credited the victory to PM Modi’s leadership and affirmed that the new government would prioritize key issues, including tackling corruption, reducing pollution, and launching welfare schemes. “Our priority will be to give Rs 2,500 to women, establish a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption, and improve the Yamuna riverfront and traffic conditions,” he stated.
Nadda Hails PM Modi’s Leadership, Promises Transparent Governance
BJP national president J.P. Nadda lauded the party’s landslide victory, attributing it to the trust people have placed in PM Modi.
“The results have clearly shown that ‘Delhi ke dil mein Modi hai’ (Modi resides in Delhi’s heart). Today’s mandate is a testament to the people’s rejection of anarchy, arrogance, and corruption,” Nadda said. He also accused AAP of misleading citizens under the guise of education reforms and running what he called a “factory of lies and corruption.”
Election Turnout and Vote Share
The voter turnout for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections stood at 60.54 percent. BJP emerged as the largest party, securing 45.56 percent of the total vote share (approximately 43 lakh votes), while AAP obtained 43.57 percent (about 41 lakh votes).
The Congress party, which once dominated Delhi politics, suffered yet another setback, failing to secure even a single seat for the third consecutive assembly election.
Future Roadmap for BJP in Delhi
With BJP firmly in control, the focus now shifts to fulfilling its campaign promises. Establishing an SIT to probe AAP-era corruption scandals is expected to be a key agenda item for the new government. The decision on Delhi’s next Chief Minister will be made in consultation with the party’s legislative members, according to BJP leaders.
