After 471 days of captivity, British-Israeli Emily Damari, along with Doron Steinbrecher and Romi Gonen, has been released from Gaza as part of the Israel-Hamas agreement. Their return marks a poignant moment of relief and hope for their families, who campaigned tirelessly for their release, and for a global community that rallied behind them during their ordeal.

In a statement from Mandy Damari, Emily’s mother, she expressed profound gratitude to everyone who fought for Emily’s freedom, saying, “Thank you for bringing Emily home.” However, she also highlighted the ongoing plight of countless other families, urging that “every last hostage must be released” and calling for humanitarian aid for those still in captivity.

Footage released showed vehicles carrying the freed hostages and special forces personnel leaving the Gaza Strip. The first phase of this agreement marks the beginning of a series of releases, with the next group of four hostages expected to be freed on Saturday.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum described this moment as a “beacon of light in the darkness,” emphasizing the importance of continuing efforts until every hostage is returned. Families and supporters worldwide celebrate this step forward while remaining united in their demand for the release of all remaining captives.
