Huawei has unveiled its latest innovative smartphone, the Huawei Pura X, during a highly anticipated product launch event on Thursday. The new device is the first to feature HarmonyOS 5, the latest version of Huawei’s operating system, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of its ecosystem.

One of the standout features of the Huawei Pura X is its 1:1 smart interactive outer screen, which enables high-frequency operations to be carried out without the need to unfold the device. This design significantly boosts screen efficiency, enhancing the user experience with greater ease of use, according to Huawei.

The launch of the Pura X also highlights the growing influence of HarmonyOS in the tech world. Recently, several global companies, including prominent foreign enterprises, have integrated HarmonyOS into their products, further expanding the operating system’s ecosystem and its capabilities. Notably, BMW China has signed an agreement with Huawei to incorporate HarmonyOS into its in-car digital ecosystem tailored specifically for the Chinese market. This move marks a significant step toward deeper integration between the tech and automotive industries.

Sean Green, president and CEO of BMW Group Region China, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “In China, nearly a quarter of our mobile application users rely on Huawei devices. By deeply integrating with the HarmonyOS ecosystem, BMW will enhance in-car applications and digital connectivity services for HarmonyOS users, elevating intelligent experiences in high-frequency use scenarios.”

The HarmonyOS ecosystem has seen rapid growth since its launch, and as of March 2025, it has surpassed 1 billion devices. With over 7.2 million registered developers and more than 20,000 applications spanning 18 industries, including finance, education, and manufacturing, Huawei is continuing to build its platform into a comprehensive hub for smart connectivity.
