The match, scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., is being played under tight protection coordinated by Sri Lankan law enforcement and defence authorities. According to officials, approximately 2,000 police officers alongside nearly 600 additional personnel, including the Police Special Task Force, tri-forces, and intelligence units, have been deployed to safeguard players, officials, and spectators attending the high-voltage fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Authorities have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone engaging in disorderly conduct, including intoxication, rioting, or indecent behaviour in and around the venue. With all tickets sold out, police have urged individuals without valid entry passes to avoid gathering near the stadium to prevent congestion and security risks. Stadium gates opened to spectators at 3:00 p.m., with comprehensive body searches and CCTV monitoring in operation as part of layered screening procedures.
Security regulations prohibit spectators from carrying plastic or glass bottles, large bags, helmets, alcohol, musical instruments, drones, or electronic equipment into the venue. Organisers have arranged internal facilities to provide drinking water and other essential services to attendees to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
A detailed traffic plan has also been activated, restricting access to key roads surrounding the stadium. Only vehicles with permits issued by the national cricket authorities are being allowed into designated approach routes, while several adjoining roads have been placed under temporary movement limitations. Multiple parking zones have been allocated across nearby areas to accommodate the influx of local fans and international visitors.
The sweeping measures form part of a broader सुरक्षा framework announced by the Ministry of Defence, which has implemented a multi-layered national security strategy for the tournament co-hosted by Sri Lanka and India. The plan includes round-the-clock protection at match venues, team hotels, training facilities, airports, and designated fan zones, along with controlled access systems, vehicle checkpoints, and coordinated spectator management.
Specialised units have been tasked with close protection for participating teams, tournament officials, diplomats, and distinguished guests. Surveillance has been enhanced through integrated CCTV networks and real-time intelligence-sharing mechanisms, while increased airspace monitoring and standby emergency medical teams are intended to ensure rapid response to any contingency.
Officials say the heightened precautions reflect both the international significance of the tournament and the uniquely intense attention surrounding an India–Pakistan contest, widely regarded as one of the most watched events in global sport. The Defence Ministry has called on the public to cooperate fully with authorities, follow stadium guidelines, and report suspicious activity, stressing that the objective is to deliver a secure and memorable World Cup while demonstrating Sri Lanka’s capability to host major international events with professionalism and precision.
