Pyongyang witnessed a landmark moment on March 26 as Comrade Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, hosted Comrade Aleksandr Lukashenko, president of the Republic of Belarus, for the first official visit since the establishment of diplomatic ties. The two leaders engaged in in-depth talks aimed at strengthening political, economic, and cultural cooperation between their countries. High-level delegations accompanied both sides, including top officials in foreign affairs, economic relations, health, education, and industry.

During the meeting, Kim Jong Un expressed strong support for Belarus’ efforts to maintain socio-political stability, foster economic growth, and defend its sovereign rights on the international stage. Lukashenko reciprocated by highlighting the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations and emphasizing that despite geographic distance, bilateral relations have entered a new phase of development. Discussions spanned multiple areas of cooperation, including high-level exchanges, diplomacy, and regional and international issues of mutual concern.

The summit culminated in the signing of the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between the DPRK and Belarus, formalizing the intent to expand collaboration across diplomacy, information, agriculture, education, and public health. Kim Jong Un and Lukashenko commemorated the occasion with a joint photograph and exchanged ceremonial gifts, symbolizing the strengthened bond. Both leaders expressed confidence that the renewed partnership will continue to advance the interests of their peoples and usher in a new era of bilateral engagement.
