Black Americans across the United States have reportedly received offensive anonymous messages following Donald Trump’s election victory, according to Reuters. The messages, which appear to mockingly reference slavery, instruct recipients to report to “plantations to pick cotton.”

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill, who is white, also received one of the messages, which read: “Now that Trump is president, you have been chosen to pick cotton on a nearby plantation. Our boys will come and pick you up in a van.”

Authorities have launched an investigation, and early findings indicate the messages may have been sent from overseas. Security officials are working to trace the origin of these messages, which have stirred widespread concern and condemnation. President-elect Trump has categorically denied any involvement in the campaign, distancing himself from the incident.
