Former Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe has welcomed the steps taken by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to advance economic cooperation with India, particularly through the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA).

In an official statement, Wickremesinghe expressed his approval of the joint declaration issued on December 16, 2024, by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Dissanayake in New Delhi. “The Joint Statement is a welcome development since it further deepens and strengthens Indo-Lanka cooperation,” he said.

The former President commended Dissanayake’s leadership in pushing forward with the ETCA and emphasized the significance of the initiative for Sri Lanka’s economic future. He also praised the plans to develop Trincomalee as a regional energy and industrial hub, describing it as a transformative step for the nation and the South Asian region.
