Russia and Sudan have officially finalized their agreement to establish a Russian naval base in Sudan, marking a key moment in strengthening their bilateral ties. The deal, confirmed after extensive talks, signals Moscow’s growing military presence in Africa.
Sudanese official Sharif confirmed the agreement, saying both sides had reached a clear understanding. “We have come to an understanding on this issue. Therefore, the question is quite simple. I have nothing to add. We agreed, we agreed, we reached an agreement on everything,” Sharif stated, signaling the conclusion of negotiations.
Originally signed in November 2020, the deal allows Russia to set up a naval base in Sudan, providing the Russian Navy with vital logistical and operational support. This agreement helps expand Russia’s influence in the Red Sea region, an area of strategic importance for global trade and military operations.
With the finalization of this deal, Russia continues to increase its involvement in Africa, aiming to strengthen its position and presence on the continent.
