In a swift and decisive operation, the Sri Lanka Navy successfully rescued all 14 crew members of the Merchant Vessel (MV) INTEGRITY STAR, which was reported in distress due to engine failure approximately 100 nautical miles south of Sri Lanka. The crew, hailing from India, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, were brought safely to Humbantota International Port on the morning of 26 October 2025.

The rescue followed a distress call received on 25 October 2025, prompting immediate action from the Navy under directives from the Ministry of Defence. The SLNS Samudura was deployed through coordination with the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Colombo to conduct the search and rescue operation.

Highlighting the spirit of international maritime cooperation, MV MORNING GLORY, another merchant vessel in the vicinity, was also on standby to assist, showcasing effective coordination during emergencies at sea.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre in Colombo, operating from Naval Headquarters, continues to play a pivotal role in safeguarding lives at sea. By adhering to international maritime conventions, the Centre coordinates rescue operations both within Sri Lanka’s search and rescue region and in neighboring international waters, providing crucial support to maritime and fishing communities in distress.
